So our journey across the world began bright and early Monday morning, I unfortunately didn’t have much sleep anyways from the excitement. We managed to leave the house without mom crying and dad talked the whole way. Dad told us he was just droping us off, and that is just what he did. He got out tipped the guy and told him to take care of us and started to leave-we had to ask for hugs! Security was easy but they made me go through a machine that blows air up, I had a skirt on but they warned me. It was strange to say the least. Everything went smoothly, the sun was rising while we waited to get on the plane. The flight to Houston was funny cause I was in the middle and the guy next to me was on the isle and you could tell he was very uncomfortable. By the time we arrived I didn’t feel good, probably from the coffee on an empty stomach. I was nervous about getting to our gate but right off the plane there was a woman that told us it was the gate next to us. So we had time to get food. It looked like it would be a full flight by all the Japanese people waiting too. Nerves and excitement were in full action. It was better on the plane to Tokyo since it was bigger. We were in the middle, there was an older Japanese man that sat next to me. A couple minutes later his wife came over talked to him, saying something about him sitting with the boys and then she proceded to sit next to me with a grin. Now mind you I like to fly but what took place after this point was one of the longest, tourcherest things that I will have to do again. I just kept thinking-I’m glad I won’t be doing this again for awhile.
We were on a newer plane so we had nice personal screens for music, movies and t.v.-the options were amazing. The woman next to me slept and kept watching the same movies over and over again. I think she watched becoming jane like 4 times in a row! My attention span anyways is terriable, but I couldn’t stick with any one thing. I did manage to watch 4 full movie,1 ¾ of the way through and parts of 2 others. I played a few games but got irritated quickly and watched t.v. episodes. We had this running joke through the flight cause everytime we in the middle of watching something they would pause it to talk over the intercom. Not only does that make you irritated but a they ended and you prepared to resume your watching they would again pause it to repeat what they had said in japenese. “wait for it”, became the phrase. Some book reading insued but was hard to concentrate. I kept watching the progress screen which never seemed to move. At one point it seemed we had been flying forever and I turned to Katie and told her only 9 more hours to go to Tokyo! She looked at me and almost cryed. Later on she turned to me and said- I changed my mind, I wanna go home. This was followed by us braking out in laughter. At one point I got up to put something away in the overhead bin, as I was reaching up I felt someone’s hand graze across my bum. It shocked aww I turned my head only to realixe it was a little old woman who had been walking the isles with her hands up to make her presince known. Because she was so short her hands and head came up to my bum! We had a good laugh. By the time we were almost to Tokyo we had both slept very little and were getting punchy and irritable.
Getting off the plane we headed to find our gate, we found an area were katey’s name was on a board. I was mad thinking they had maybe moved her to first class. Turned out they had just moved her seat to match mine. They directed us to where we had to go through security once more. The airport workers all had these adorable little matching outfits and were all so nice. We wanted to get something out of the vending machine, since we heard that is a big thing there. I looked at katey and disappointedly said-man we have to have yen! Our hopes dashed and not much time to wait, we found our gate and watched the dreary weather outside. I was worried cause they kept announcing things but we couldn’t understand them. We got on the plane and katey promptly fell asleep. I started to till they announced there were forms to fill out and the food cart was going by. This was like the fourth time they had fed us which we were not expecting. When the lady came by with food she leaned over me and woke katey up with the words-“chicken or shrimp”? she looked up startled and replied sleeply. I couldn’t help but sniker. Soon after we both fell asleep, this being the first of sleep I had had in like 24 hours.
When we arrived the sirport was dead and we were the only plane coming in. we had to wait forever for our luggage but thankfully it arrived not damaged. We went through customs breezy. We were greeted by Emily, john and jo. I nearly cried, it was so good to see something familier and to be on the ground again. They took us to the branch were jo gave us a tour while we waited for Erica. The tour took all of 10 minutes if that, it is sos small but we love it. Jo proceeded to tell us that we would get to work in construction. We were excieted except we were not really prepared for that. By this point we were exhausted and alittle nervous to meet Erica cause we didn’t know what she was like. The instant we met her we were put at ease, she is as normal as us.
We felt at home with her especially since when we got to her place we dumped our stuff and fell asleep.
The very next moring Erica was going to the branch for one of the days she commutes in. we decieded instead of sleeping in, to get up at 5:30 to go to morning worship and our first day of work at bethal. It was great to be there and so very different from bethal in new york (any of them). We pretty much met the entire family that morning. At work a brother had us mix concrete for a project for him. Everytime he asked us for a batchhe would liken it to a type of food like oatmeal or cream of wheat. We fit right in. We had fun and kept saying that only in jehovah’s organization could you being doing physical work and be so happy because of why and who your doing it for. Later that evening after work. The brother’s wife took us and Emily out for a swim, perfect ending to the day. It was so cool cause we were at the public beach and there was coral that you could snorkel and see all the fish and life under the water. The sister also took us to k-mart, which is supposed to be the biggest one (I don’t know how true that is). It was big but strange the veriety of stuff it sold including furniture and appliances. That night we defiantly slept good that night.
